Pastors & Evangelists

SERVING THOSE WHO SERVE

Save the dates for 2021 -2022

We believe that when pastors and parish leaders make evangelization and discipleship a priority – when they live in their identity as missionary disciples – then they can be a powerful source of renewal in their parish.

OUR VISION

We believe that when pastors and parish leaders make evangelization and discipleship a priority – when they live in their identity as missionary disciples – then they can be a powerful source of renewal in their parish.

HOW WE SERVE

Our Parish Evangelization Support Team seeks to provide opportunities for Parish Evangelists that will enable them to encounter Jesus Christ, to grow as a community, and to open space for the Holy Spirit to renew parish evangelization structures. We do this through three key areas of responsibility

We seek to equip ministers for the tasks of evangelization so they feel confident, are able to equip a team to work with them, and ultimately for the salvation of souls of those entrusted to their care.

We do this through:

      • Parish Consulting in efforts of Evangelization for youth, adult, and/or families.  This includes a listening session, goal setting, initial observation, strategic planning, and ongoing support and observations as needed/requested;
      • Youth Evangelization Apprenticeship (beginning Fall 2021, open to any new Parish Evangelists); and
      • One-on-one mentoring and accompaniment of evangelists
  • Create opportunities for Communion for Mission & Mission for Communion.  Sharing life, prayer, and formation for the mission of parish evangelization.

We seek to provide opportunities for sharing life, sharing prayer, and sharing formation and training for the shared mission of parish evangelization efforts.  The need to encounter Jesus Christ, to grow as a community, and to open space for the Holy Spirit to renew parish evangelization structures.

We do this through:

      • Missio Days: quarterly regional gatherings that look to offer opportunities of Mission for Communion.  Breaking open specific topics or areas of concern in evangelization and offering concrete resources and skills.
      • Communio Groups: Smaller, more intentional groups that look to share life and prayer with evangelists near one another, emphasizing Communion for Mission.
      • Retreats (New Fire for new evangelists; Reignite for veteran evangelists; Advent & Lent)
      • Conferences & Continuing Education (Radiate Christ, Northern Congress; encouraging national conference participation such as Bosco Conference & Catholic Youth Ministry; Steubenville’s Catechetical Institute)
  • Support our Evangelists through hospitality, encouragement, and recognition.

It is a call and charism of the Christian life, and crucial to supporting our evangelists and preventing burnout.

We do this through:

      • Annual Recognition & Appreciation Banquets (coming Feb 2022!)
      • Taking a great concern to our Hospitality and Environment at all events so that Evangelists feel taken care of, loved, and supported.

Bio: My role at the Center mainly focuses on those who evangelize to the youth. I offer opportunities for youth evangelists to share life and prayer on a regional and Archdiocesan level, while encouraging that sharing of life and prayer at the parish level with their teams and volunteers. I also organize ongoing formation in catechesis and best practices for the mission of leading youth into relationship with Jesus Christ and offer opportunities for the youth to share life and prayer. My favorite part of my job is going onsite for a parish training with a team and watching them work together, pray together, and get excited to serve the youth together.  The creativity and excitement that’s generated from their time together is amazing! A Little About Me: I was born in Connecticut, raised in Georgia and currently reside in Dayton, with my two cats and dog, all of which God brought to me through humorous events so perhaps one day I will join St. Francis as a Patron Saint of animals. Favorite Saint: I probably pray most often to St. Therese of Lisieux (stalking me since 2014) and my confirmation saint, Elizabeth Ann Seton. First quote I ever memorized: “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for woe, to give you a future full of hope.”  Jeremiah 29: 11

Wayne Topp
Director, Young Adult Evangelization
Wayne Topp
Contact me for:
  • Questions about young adult ministry or events
  • Sharing ideas about new apostolates for and by young adults
  • Ideas to engage young adults in your parish
Bio: The Office for Young Adult Evangelization and Discipleship meets young adults along the Way, gives them opportunity for healing and walks with them into discipleship. I help establish young adult apostolates throughout the Archdiocese and host regular community-building events that lead to small group opportunities for conversion and one on one apprenticeship in discipleship. The best part about my job is being able to spend time getting to know people on a very personal level and to inspire them to be who God has created them to be. A Little About Me: I grew up in a small town (just like John Cougar Mellencamp) and after graduating from New Bremen High School in 2000, I spent one year of formal discernment at the Pontifical College Josephinum. I later graduated from Xavier University and have been working with the Archdiocesan Pastoral Center since 2007. My wife Marianne and I have been married for 16 years and are blessed to be the parents of 7 children. I love to spend time with my wife and children by baking, cooking, and even carving watermelon. Contact Me for:
  • Catechesis and formation in Spanish
  • Youth ministry to the children of Hispanic immigrants
  • Any Questions about Hispanic ministries in the Archdiocese
Bio: I will be at the service of the growing Hispanic community in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, providing catechesis, sacramental prep and formation in Spanish and English. I love to share the life-giving beauty of our faith with all people but I am especially drawn to service to the poor. Hispanic Catholics suffer from a great disparity in outreach by the Church and I am utterly thrilled to be at their service. Hispanic immigrants need Christ more than anything and I want to serve that need. A Little About Me: I am married to the Managing Director of Marriage and Family, Adriana, and we have two children: Peter Julian and Zoe Anastasia. I love to workout, read, listen to all sorts of music and follow sports. I was raised in California and went to college at Notre Dame (Go Irish). Bio: The most important role I have at the Center is spending time interacting with catechetical leaders and principals throughout the Archdiocese, answering questions, listening to program issues, and helping with problems where I can.  Often this involves one of my main functions as the manager of the Vocare certification program. The very best thing about my job is the opportunity to meet and talk with catechetical leaders and principals across the Archdiocese.  I am inspired by their faith and their reliance on God’s grace. A Little About Me: I am blessed to live at a lake with all the activity that involves – boating, swimming, sunset rides on the boat with family, and general fun!  I also enjoy birdwatching in my backyard, spring flower gardening, mowing the grass, and sitting under my porch during the rain.  And of course, there is Zuzu, my little Chihuahua, who chases squirrels in the yard, takes me for walks, and makes me laugh every day.
